So you have a home studio, but can’t find bands willing to pay you?

Constantly going out of your way to find paid work?

Well let’s be honest with each other for a second…

You may suck at mixing. If you don’t suck at mixing, then you’re not hustling properly (and there’s nothing I can do to help with that).

So you’ve admitted to yourself that you could at least improve your mixing skills. This is a crucial step in separating yourself from all the other home studios you’re competing against for paid work.

There are TONS of bands in the “heavy music” genre. How many can you name?

Now take that number and multiply it by 500. Why?

Because most of the bands that will end up paying you will be bands you've never heard of.

For example, 90% of the bands that pay me to mix their music, I’ve never even heard of before.

What does this mean to you?

This means there is a gigantic number of heavy bands in the world that are willing to pay good money for their songs to be mixed and mastered by a professional.

Now how many professional mixing engineers in this genre can you personally name?

5 to 10 maybe? Not that many.

Making the transition from hobbyist to full-time mixing engineer is something that many people want, but few are able to achieve.

I’m talking about the guys that do only this for a living, and need no other source of supplemental income. There is a surprising lack of “known” guys in this genre.

This is awesome for pros like me, because I never have to seek out work.

I’ve literally never paid one cent to advertise myself or my studio.

I’m at the point in my career where I don’t have to advertise, I don’t have to seek out work, and I don’t struggle for money. Bands, labels, and managers reach out to me for work.

Now I make 70%+ of my income exclusively from paid mixing/mastering projects, but this wasn't something that happened over night.

I’ve spent the last 6 years of my life devoted to recording and mixing/mastering bands as my sole source of income, and I’ve put thousands of hours (and dollars) into self-education.

This is what separates me from the guys struggling to find work.

Of course, I know how to price projects properly, and communicate with bands/labels/managers, but none of that would matter if I was a terrible mixing engineer.…
